Musonda Lemba is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Population Studies at the University of Zambia, with over 30 years of experience in demographic analysis, research methods, applied statistics, data analysis, and evaluation. He holds an MA and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, a Diploma in Population Studies from the Regional Institute for Population Studies at the University of Ghana, and a BA from the University of Zambia. In 1992, he was a Frank Notestein Visiting Scholar at Princeton University for one year, where he also earned a postdoctoral research certificate in demography. He has undertaken research and monitoring and evaluation assignments for public and private sector organizations, UNICEF, UNFPA, the African Development Bank, and World Bank-supported projects. With technical assistance and funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), he founded the University of Zambia’s demography research and training programme in 1986, which became a department in 2011. He has served as Head of both the Social Development Studies and Population Studies departments and on several university technical committees. He also conceived and designed UNZA’s computerized promotion system. His research interests include population and health, migration, social and occupational mobility, fertility behaviour, women’s reproductive health risks, and HIV/AIDS. He has served on the editorial board of the Journal of African Social Research, supervised PhD research at the Universities of Zambia and Johannesburg, and published extensively in international journals, including Springer Nature and Elsevier, on social mobility, reproductive health, family planning, fertility, gender-based violence, and childhood nutrition.
